APRU Global Health Conference 2017

The 11th Global Health Conference, took place October 16-19, 2017, hosted by the University of the Philippines, in Manila.

This year’s theme was “Cancer & Environmental Exposure,” with a large proportion of the Pacific Rim’s cancer burden related to indoor and outdoor air pollution, and occupational exposures.

Dr. Curtis Harris, from the U.S. National Cancer Institute, gave a keynote on precision medicine strategy, environment and human cancer. Two pre-conference workshops were held, tackling the issues of substance abuse in the Philippines and migration in the Pacific Rim.

The conference provided leading experts, practitioners, policy makers and early-career researchers with a critical platform to share latest research and knowledge in relation to prevention of cancer and other non-communicable diseases, as well as environmental health and occupational health. The workshop concluded with a field trip featuring the UP campus and the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Meanwhile, the winner and three finalists of 2nd Global Health Case Competition travelled to University of Indonesia. To learn more about the Case Competition and video submissions, please visit http://bit.ly/2kZziLy
