This collaborative project is contributed by six APRU member universities and a partnering institute. In Singapore, experts from National University of Singapore contributed to the penultimate chapter which addresses the preparation for the future workforce in terms of reskilling, retraining and redeploying with the regards to the transformation of the education system. The overall project details policy recommendations regarding future employment in areas such as education, healthcare, and industries.

 

This dissemination event is part of a series of events being held among the APRU network to create awareness on how industry and society are being affected because of the changing nature of employment in the future.

SINGAPORE: Recently, Institute of Policy Studies senior research fellow Faizal Yahya proposed that in view of the incidence of ageism and the emerging challenges posed by technological disruptions, resulting in the displacement of many older workers, a new Ministry of Ageing, coordinating closely with the Manpower and Education Ministries, should be set up.

 

Indeed, the time is ripe for the creation of such a Ministry.

It can tackle issues ranging from ageism to job displacement due to automation: Report

 

A new ministry of ageing, coordinating closely with the manpower and education ministries, could help the authorities resolve emerging challenges such as the displacement of mature professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs) because of automation.

 

Such a ministry should have a division to mitigate the incidence of ageism in employment, says a report about the future workforce by Institute of Policy Studies senior research fellow Faizal Yahya.

Report proposes MOE and MOM be merged to tackle skills gap among Singapore’s workforce

A report by a think-tank has proposed that the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of Education be combined to ensure that Singaporean workers have the skills the economy needs.

 

This is because work and study are phases that are increasingly converging, with education no longer a linear process but a continuous cyclical process that follows industry cycles, Institute of Policy Studies’ research fellow Faizal Yahya wrote in the report.
