Along with nine APRU universities who sent senior scholars to speak at the Nanjing Forum, Secretary General Chris Tremewan presented a paper on “The Role of Research Universities in the International Relations of States’.  Nanjing University, an APRU member, and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies held a Forum of academics, senior officials and other policy-makers in Nanjing 19-21 October, 2015.  The Forum purpose was to ‘focus on the hot issues and promote cooperation in the Asia-Pacific’ noting that 2015 marks ‘the beginning of China’s Initiative on building the “Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21^st Century Maritime Silk Road” (The Belt and Road Initiative)’.

There were three thematic streams: Cyber Hyper-Connectivity (its potential for both positive and negative consequences); Cyber Security and the need for a globally coordinated approach; Cybercrime and again the need for international cooperation.
