Along with nine APRU universities who sent senior scholars to speak at the Nanjing Forum, Secretary General Chris Tremewan presented a paper on “The Role of Research Universities in the International Relations of States’.  Nanjing University, an APRU member, and the Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies held a Forum of academics, senior officials and other policy-makers in Nanjing 19-21 October, 2015.  The Forum purpose was to ‘focus on the hot issues and promote cooperation in the Asia-Pacific’ noting that 2015 marks ‘the beginning of China’s Initiative on building the “Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road” (The Belt and Road Initiative)’.

There were three thematic streams: Cyber Hyper-Connectivity (its potential for both positive and negative consequences); Cyber Security and the need for a globally coordinated approach; Cybercrime and again the need for international cooperation.
