Established in 1907, Tongji University is one of the Class A universities in the World-leading University Construction Program of China. With over a century of history, Tongji University has always valued the balanced development of talent cultivation, scientific research, community service, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international cooperation.

Tongji University now covers 10 broad categories of academic disciplines including Engineering, Science, Medicine, Management, Economics, Philosophy, Literature, Law, Education, and Fine Arts. It’s home to nearly 3,000 full-time faculty members, of which 1,074 hold senior professional titles, 31 are academicians of two academies (the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering). There are almost 18,500 full-time undergraduate students, 11,000 graduate students and 6, 500 doctoral candidates with 5,200 international students pursuing degrees here.

Tongji University offers 82 undergraduate majors, 26 professional master’s programs in 45 broad academic disciplines, 9 professional doctoral programs in 33 broad academic disciplines and 30 postdoctoral mobile research stations. Tongji University houses 17 state-level laboratories, research centers and platforms and 70 Key Laboratories and Engineering (Technology) Research Centers at the provincial and ministerial levels. Also, there are nine hospitals, six middle and primary schools affiliated with the University.

With close historical ties with German and European universities, Tongji University is actively expanding its influence to North America, Asia and Africa. So far it has established 12 international cooperation platforms in partnership with Germany, France, Italy, Finland, Spain and United Nations agencies.
