APRU Population Aging Conference 2021

The 11th APRU Aging Population Virtual Conference encouraged research on a number of broad themes that not only survived with diminished functions related to aging but new ways to help the elderly develop and overcome limitations and were associated with transitions that changed the view of aging from “survive” to “develop”.

Hosted by the Faculty of Public Health, University of Indonesia, the theme of this year’s conference was Challenges and Resilience Related to Aging: Surviving and Thriving toward Successful Aging. The two-day event covered a board range of aging topics from dementia, mental health, long-term care to COVID-19. Over 260 people have attended the conference each day.

Sub-themes include

  1. Economic and Aging Society
  2. Technology and Health Care for Aging
  3. Dementia and Alzheimer
  4. Reproductive Health in Aging Population
  5. Nutrition and Aging
  6. Metabolic Syndrome
  7. Psychosocial Issue in Aging
  8. Others

 

 The Conference aimed

  • To provide a platform to engage with government and enterprise, and to support capacity building to improve the capacity of nations to deal with this aging challenge.
  • To raise awareness about the demographic shifts towards older populations
  • To address the challenges and reap the opportunities of population aging.
  • To provide policy makers with the evidentiary base for policy making, ensuring aging issues and the transition to an aged society does not hamper economic growth and overall quality of life of people in the region.

The inaugural video competition on ‘Impact of pandemic Covid-19 on aging communities’ was held along with the APRU Population Aging Conference.
