Zhejiang University (ZJU) is one of China’s top higher education institutions, as well as one of its oldest; its roots can be traced back to 1897 and the founding of the Qiushi Academy. Located in Hangzhou, one of China’s most picturesque cities, ZJU is home to over 60,000 students.
 
The university is organized across 7 faculties and 40 schools. As a top university in China supported by the “Double First-class” Initiative, ZJU is a research powerhouse with 10 state key laboratories, 11 state engineering laboratories/centers, and over 40 international joint labs/centers with private and public sectors. Capitalizing on its broad research portfolio, ZJU has launched the Innovation 2030, a university-wide strategic framework to catalyze collaboration among various discipline clusters and find innovative solutions to global challenges of tomorrow. At present, ZJU ranks among the top three on Chinese mainland and 45th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings.

ZJU recognizes that the higher education community can play a key role in addressing global challenges and advancing the process of sustainable development. As part of our commitment to enhance the engagement with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and accelerate implementation efforts, we launched a university-wide sustainability action plan – ‘A Global ZJU for Social Good’ (shortened as ‘Z4G’) in 2021. The Plan integrates sustainability into education, scholarship and campus operations, in which 60,000+ students, 9,600+ staff, 200+ overseas partners and the local communities where we are based, will play different but equally important roles.
